Bodie

Image
Finally getting around to posting from my trip to the Eastside of the Sierras This time in Bodie I tried to focus more on the smaller aspects. I took plenty of  landscape type shots but am going to post mostly closer shots and most of them are in black and white or sepia tone. For a rough and tumble town Bodie had it's refinements as well. Besides the fact that it only had one or two churches. As in most boom and bust towns there were those who were well off and could afford little shows of  refinement including in the architecture of the buildings. This next one I just like with all the contrasts. The texture of the wood, I wonder how  much longer this will stand? Bodie is littered with machinery scattered across the property. I used one of Photo Shops presets to get a little grittier  of an image on this one This was probably once a major conduit for water either to serve one of the mines or...

Mission Carmel

Image
Friedhelm and I went to Mission Carmel a while back. There were a lot of flowers in bloom and that's pretty much what I  focused on. Pardon the pun. I'm not sure what many of them are called. But there was a lot of beauty. They had just watered some of the areas. One of the architectural features that caught my eye was this apparent check mark made by the roof line and bell tower. I liked the many layers and busyness of this succulant.  A different Flower 1 I generally don't take a lot of photos of Calla Lilies. But these really caught my eye. Go See, Enjoy and Photograph Dave

Nevada State Capitol Building

Image
I recently went to Carson City, Nevada. While I was there I visited the  State Capitol building, and also learned the difference between;  Capital and Capitol. Capital is the city, Capitol is the building. But YOU knew that. The building wasn't earthquake proof so they saved everything they could, gutted the inside, put up a concrete structure inside to support the old  shell then put back everything from the floor tiles to the dome. I think they did Okay. Here's the Capitol Dome and the cupola's from the state library. Go, See, Enjoy. Dave

In Bodie you'll see one type of building more than any other. They're everywhere.   I'm not sure why I find them fascinating but I kinda do. I especially like the ones that show a little wear over time. In the winter with as cold as Bodie gets these must have been miserable places. Go, See, Enjoy. Dave

Patient Spider

Image
Old paint and spiders, oooooohhhh  While walking around Chowchilla I found this very patient spider. It took me a while  to get a good image without my tripod and it was getting dark. I like how the paint behind the spider is out of focus but becomes clear as your eye moves up the image. It also gives you some indication of how far away the spider was from the paint.  I wish I could have gotten the spider web but it was just too fine and the light was at the wrong angle, though this way it seems to be floating. Go, See, Enjoy.......Even if it is an old door with crackly paint. Dave

Downspout

Image
This was taken at the Bloss House is Atwater, CA Since the subject was mostly black and white I converted the whole photo to remove the light coloring of the floor behind the downspout and column. I like the softness of the curves and the way it leads you through the photograph. Go, See, Enjoy.

Yosemite Chapel

Image
Even the man made parts of Yosemite are pretty well done. There is nothing more beautiful than Yosemite in winter. The Chapel is just one of the many buildings in Yosemite and the NPS has done what they can to keep them in harmony with this wonderful place. Go, See, Enjoy Dave

Fire Hydrant

Image
My tag line is 'Go, See, Enjoy'! Sometimes it's only a few blocks from your house. I like the lines and shadow of this hydrant taken in the early morning light. Hope you........Go, See, Enjoy! Dave

Bodie #2

Image
Both these photos were taken through windows since the inside of many buildings are not accessible to preserve them. But they give you a good idea of what to expect. It really is a great place to visit, photographer or not. If you like old you'll love Bodie. Go, See, Enjoy! Dave

Applegate Fountain

Image
A fellow photographer and I went to Applegate Park in Merced CA the other day. There is a great fountain there and this is the photograph I like best. Go, See, Enjoy. Dave

Sundial Bridge Support

Image
A couple of weeks ago I took a weekend vacation and stopped in Redding Calif. where I visited the Sundial Bridge. This is a look at the support structure. The bridge is part of the Turtle Bay Exploration Park that includes a nature walk and arboretum. Go, See, Enjoy!

A Capital Corner

Image
I was intrigued with the lighting of the Capital, not only the dome but the individual light fixtures and the intricate decorations throughout. Go, See, Enjoy

A different California Half Dome

Image
Because of a statue in the middle of the floor it is impossible to get a full centered view of the Capitol Dome in Sacramento. Actually I like this shot a lot, the lines, the colors, of course I had to lay on the floor to get it. Go, See, Enjoy!

California State Capital-Lower Dome Opening

Image
I just took a trip to the Capital building in Sacramento . The day was overcast so I stayed inside. This is a view of the lower level opening to the Capital Dome. Photographing the Capital building is a wonderful way to spend a overcast afternoon. Go, See, Enjoy.
