Eastside Clouds

Image
As I mentioned in my last post, when I went to the east side of the  Sierras the weather was somewhat unsettled. That allowed for some interesting skies. Leaving the hills above Bishop I encountered scenes like this. As I proceeded to the hills between Bishop and Lee Vining the sun started to set and  the storm clouds really started to form. I must have stopped a least 10 times taking photos  of the various cloud formations that were changing constantly. It seemed like everywhere you looked, front, back, left or right there were beautiful colors. As I neared Lee Vining some lenticular clouds seemed to be forming in front of me. Then I met George, you can see George's face, right? Go, See, Enjoy and Photograph Dave

Eastern Sierras in Oct.

Here's some more from my trip to the east side of the Sierras last week. This was taken just east of Silver Lake. After my car started acting up I had decided to go straight back to my motel room. That decision lasted until I saw this. If you're going to stop you might as well photograph the area  for a while. The car wasn't going to get any worse just  sitting there. That same day I had visited the Lee Vining Museum. Unfortunately the museum building was closed for the season. But the outside  displays weren't. If you know me, you know I like gears and lines. This is part of a large mining shovel used to move ore and rock. I thought it looked too crisp and sharp so I added grain and blurred it by .35 pixels.   Just an old dump truck I liked the looks of. Go, See, Enjoy. Dave

Eastern Sierra: Lee Vining Creek

Last weekend I went to the Eastern Sierras looking for some fall color. While some areas I planned on going were past their prime, others were still pretty good. I decided to stay away from places I'd been before. Believe it or not I didn't even visit Bodie or Mono Lake. My first stop was a place I drive past every time I head that way. It's Lee Vining Creek  and I believe the road is Power Line Road. It's on 120 just a bit before the 395 junction. The sky was overcast the whole weekend, more on that later. But it didn't provide  for blue skies with puffy clouds. Here's one of the first shots of the late afternoon ( got a late start, darn work) Then I met this young lady. In fact I was surrounded by about 6-8 deer  for a few minutes. Camera not so ready. Next I came upon something very unexpected. As I was leaving the area I took a little walk and came upon this. And this was all in about a...

Not all old buildings are in Bodie These two were on Highway 395 just south of Lee Vining on the other side of Yosemite. It was taken a couple of weeks ago while there was still some snow on the nearby hills. With the drought the snow won't be there long. Go, See, Enjoy! David
