Yosemite and More

  Finally got around to editing some of the photos I took on my second work/brief vacation to the Oregon and Norther California Coast. Really this is just a small portion and in no particular order. I love the ruggedness of the Oregon and N. California Coasts Did it take you a second or two to find the starfish below? These flowers came in a myriad of colors and sizes. I've never seen this species before, about the size of a couple of quarters and all over the beach. There are tons of types of Lupine, this is a new one for me.  Took a trip to the coast a couple of days ago. Originally planned on photographing around the Monterey, Point Lobos area but the traffic and crowds were horrendous. So I continued down the coast to the Big Sur area. No beach visits but great hikes and my kind of country, forests. This butterfly finally cooperated and stay in one place for a few seconds The feather on the clover just appealed to me for some reason. There were a few flowers, some easier to spot than others, especially if you're color blind. I hate that term Another patient insect. This is a famous waterfall at Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park  because it empties into the Pacific Ocean If you go to the other side of the parking lot and follow the Canyon Trail...  As usual I only had a little time on the North Coast, it always seem I  have someplace I have to be. Normally I go straight to the State and Federal  Redwood Parks and skip the coast itself. This time I stopped at a lot of the beaches and parks along the way. I think I hit it just at the right time for flowers, I only knew the names of  a few so I just lumped them all under one label. Friedhelm and I went to Mission Carmel a while back. There were a lot of flowers in bloom and that's pretty much what I  focused on. Pardon the pun. I'm not sure what many of them are called. But there was a lot of beauty. They had just watered some of the areas. One of the architectural features that caught my eye was this apparent check mark made by the roof line and bell tower. I liked the many layers and busyness of this succulant.  A different Flower 1 I generally don't take a lot of photos of Calla Lilies. But these really caught my eye. My first post of 2019 coming in February is pretty sad. I have several photo excursions to post, just have avoided the edit thing. Friedhelm and I went to the coast the last Thursday. Our first stop was Point Lobos State Reserve. We walked in from the highway, a nice less than a mile hike on a paved trail. Along the trail were a number of fungi. Is it a mushroom or toadstool? The names are apparently interchangeable and there is no clear scientific distinction. Commonly anything edible is considered a mushroom and poisonous a toadstool.  We were lucky that there weren't a lot of tourists, however as every photographer knows, THERE'S ALWAYS THAT ONE, who gets in the way. The day was a little overcast and gloomy but it's still a great place to photograph I thought the dead trees, brush and gloomy skies deserved black and white in this one. One of the things I like most about Point Lobos is that there's more to see and photograph than just the waves.  Part of the park consists of forest, tide pools, islands and small beach areas. You  may see seals, sea otters, whales, and a variety of birds. If you look around and down, the rocks, tide pools and plants provide a wide variety of photographic opportunities. The ocean does a wonderful job exposing the various  layers of rock. Some of those layers are at interesting angles The beach area is full of interesting stuff washed up from the ocean and a wide variety of pebbles and rocks. There's even a sign asking you to not 'collect' anything.  If you like lines and contrast it doesn't get much better than this. I thought this one looked like the back of a turtle.
