Great Basin National Park

Image
Great Basin National Park is located in the eastern part of Nevada, but the  Great Basin ranges from the Easter Sierra to Utah's Wasatch Mountains. It has  valleys, several mountain ranges and very few rivers. Much of it high desert.  The Park ranges from 6,825 feet to 13,065 feet. That ranges gives you a  variety of scenery and photographic opportunities. When I first got to the visitors center I asked if there were any Aspens in bloom since none were visible from the center. The ranger said it was the best year in  many years. He was right, I timed it just right. One of the problems was the road was very narrow and limited where you could stop. One of the main attractions in the park are the Bristlecone Pines, some of the oldest living things on earth. This is where you start.... Then you climb.... Turn a corner.... Just keep going, notice the elevation sign. I got there at the peak of color, usually you will see areas that are past peak or not yet at peak. I ...

Old Chemung Mine and More

Image
Went to the Eastern Sierras the other day. Our goal was the Chemung Mine. There was also a lot more to photograph. I changed some to Black and White, like you wouldn't notice that.   The contrast of the Aspens and old mining equipment caught my eye. Most of the Aspens were already leafless,  but still photogenic. After the Chemung we went to the Masonic Mine, not nearly as many relics there. But since it was a little chilly the nearby creek provided some nice crystal shots. Maybe a road we'll take next time.  Go, See, Enjoy, Stay Safe and Photograph. Dave

Eastside of the Sierras

Image
Recently took a trip to the Eastside of the Sierras in part to find some fall colors, and boy did we. It was a great day if not rather long. Also went to Bodie and  Mono Lake but that's for another post. This was our first stop, not bad!! I always like how the sun make the aspens jump with color when backlit. These leaves while not turned completely formed a nice heart shape. Aspens, Aspens, Aspens Aspen trunks seem to just grow any which way, and I like it. Many layers, Aspens, Pines, Mountains. Makes a guy who likes lines get a big smile. Go, See, Enjoy, Stay Safe and Photograph Dave

Fall Colors Eastern Sierras

Image
I'm way behind in posting from my adventures but thought I'd post this group from my recent trip looking for some fall colors in the Eastern Sierra around Bishop, Lee Vining and Bridgeport. My trip was shortened by the impending closure of Tioga Pass and hampered by heavy smoke (air quality 156 ), overcast skies (no backlighting) and trying to  get more things done than time allowed. Many areas were a mixture of too early, just right and too late. So the usual. June Lake Loop, an area I usually spend a lot of time on was just too early except with the the higher elevations, mostly around houses, etc. As you come down Tioga grade, just after the dam and the big curve you look back and see this. Many of these photos were taken along State Route 168 that follows Bishop Creek.  This is one of my favorites, just a Aspen Leaf resting on the needles of a pine branch. This was a road I'd never taken before, it goes from the Virginia Lakes Road to  Green Creek Road. You get ...
