Bodie- Interiors

I full-filled a Bucket List item about a week ago.

I had the pleasure of being able to go into some of the interiors
of the buildings at Bodie State Park. This was something I've wanted to
do since I started going to Bodie. It is a once in a lifetime experience for me....
okay maybe twice depending on $$ and opportunity.

Jeff Sullivan of Jeff Sullivan Photography (go figure) was our
guide and really a great guy.

A friend warned me about posting too many photos, is 19 too many. I could
even add more. And this doesn't include the exteriors, night with Milkyway
 or Mono Lake.

I change a lot to black and white some using sepia tone, some split toned
some I left color.

I took a lot, I mean a lot of photos and am not completely sure where they
where all taken, I believe this one is from the Lottie Johl house. A
lady of some repute, good and bad.

This is from the Lottie Johl House as well.

This is from the Barber Shop???

The next few are from the School House..

The hat was sitting atop the small organ.

You can see why I left this one in color. Even after all these
years the globe still is pretty vibrant. Take a look at South America.
Looks like about three or four different countries.

This globe didn't hold up so well.

This is the teachers hat and desk.

Next is the Wheaton and Hollis Hotel

Kitchen was a little messy, and what was cooking didn't look
too appetizing.

The teapot was ready for the stove.

There was also a billiards room in the hotel.

The rooms weren't luxurious by today's standards but pretty good for the time.

One of the rooms must have had a family in there.

Need to freshen up and the shared bathroom is taken.......

The hotel also had a switchboard, I believe it was placed here and
not original to the Hotel. Some of my older viewers will get the
title reference. (Hum along)

If you have a switchboard you need a headset.

Each building a a set number of photographers that were allowed
in at any one time so our time was limited. The least was the undertaker (1), a very small
space. There were a number of coffins and other items. I took a photo of this (among others)

Next came the jail, not very hospitable and I'm sure very cold in the winter.
Bodie was a very violent town. In fact the story goes that when a young girl
learned her family was moving to Bodie she was quoted as saying
'Good-bye God I'm going to Bodie'

The outer door on the left, cell door on the right.

I've taken the Standard Mill tour several times. It was nice not to be rushed
and allowed to pretty much wander as we pleased.

A crucible and form for melting and forming the gold and silver
into bars.

As you can imagine the mill had to be as self sufficient as possible since
Bodie was a long way from any large city. The machine shop
exemplified this need.

Go, See, Enjoy and Photograph

I did all those things. Big smiles the whole day.

Exteriors, Night and Mono Lake to follow.
