Above Bass Lake
Some friends and I took a trip in separate vehicles to the Sierra's outside
Fresno above the Bass Lake Area, 6000+ feet.
It was a great trip, not only for the wildflowers but especially for the company of
some great photographers. You'll have to forgive me if some of the names I've used
are not exactly correct. If you find an error please let me know in the comments.
Comments are always welcome.
Lupine is pretty common in the Sierra's, I liked this one because of the colors and the
granite background. There are 70 species of Lupine in the Sierra Nevada.
You don't always have to have a pretty flower to have an interesting subject.
This one is called Miners Lettuce, it doesn't look like lettuce to me but that's what
the book said. In a week or so it will have some small flowers.
There are seventeen butterflies listed in my Sierra Nevada
guide book that are similar in color to this one. So I just named it Blue.
Mountain Iris's are on of the few large flowers in the Sierra Nevada, They are a
beautiful sight to behold. The first photograph is of course in full bloom, the other
just a baby.
I believe the next one if a Slender Cinquefoil (French for 5 leaves). Very
similar to the Buttercup but I chose the Cinquefoil because of the leaves.
Once again it was hard to define this beautiful and delicate flower.
I went with the Queens Cup.
Shooting Stars can cover a whole field in beautiful color. Singles or in this case doubles
or triples can be just as special.
Flower books don't cover plants without flowers, who would'a guessed and
I couldn't find this one in my Sierra Nevada plant guide.
Once again this is a guess but I believe this to be the Mountain Strawberry, both by
the flower and the leaves.
Be Safe, Go, See, Enjoy and Photograph
