Yosemite and More

 The next stop on our trip was Brice National Park, famed for it's Hoodoos.  One legend is that a long time ago an evil people lived in the land and because of their evilness  were turned to stone. Thus the Hoodoos. The weather here was very cold and windy in the morning with the wind increasing  and continuing in the afternoon.  There were a number of arches throughout the park and beyond. The Hoodoos are of course the main attraction As a kid (and now) clouds sometimes remind me of other things. This was very apparent with the Hoodoos. Below I saw people approaching a castle wall. Even the land beyond the main attraction of the Hoodoos is pretty interesting. If you look to the upper left you can see a lady standing on a pedestal This gives you a pretty good idea of the many layers that make of the park. This is Thor's Hammer.  My sister Emilie and I recently took a trip to Utah for some hiking and photography. Unfortunately I had a sprained knee and the wind was not at all accommodating making photography difficult. Our first stop and hike was a small park which I can't remember the name of. It gave us a  good beginning hike for our trip and climbing up a rock wall we were gifted with this cave, and one of my favorite photos. Zion is a very majestic place and has many wonderful vistas. A lot of what caught my eye were the flowers. Some I could find the name of, others I couldn't, I found this trio interesting, Cacti, behind blue flowers, behind a dead tree. I felt Black and White showed the rocky structure. But Color is good too. As I said I liked the wildflowers.... This beauty is the Utah State Flower One of  Zion's standout areas is the Narrows.  Took a little photo walk around my front yard this evening. Spring has really begun to spring. Some flowers I don't know the name of and some I guessed. But I don't think the real important part is the name.  Hope you enjoy. If you look closely you can see the only bee I saw. With all these beautiful blooms this bee liked the Rosemary the best. I believe this to be an Iris, it is certainly one of my favorites, today anyway Not sure what these are. They're volunteers along the fence though I don't see any on my neighbors side!!?? These seem almost unworldly iridescent.  But they really do have that quality/ These are similar to the red ones. Still don't know their name. Simple blue Daisy Blue Columbine, just planted these, wish me luck. Another one I just planted. During my trip to Mt. Shasta I took some time to photograph the area near the city itself. Of course the most prominent feature of the area is the mountain. As you can see in this image there are actually two peaks. The smaller peak to the left is named Shastina, the larger is Mount Shasta itself.  As with many features in the area Shastina would be quite a attraction by itself.  Right beside Interstate 5 sits a cinder cone named Black Butte, another feature that would stand out  if not in the shadow of Mt. Shasta. The road shown is not Interstate 5. Since it's named Black Butte I thought it appropriate to post it in black and white. On the opposite side of the freeway and a bit farther off are the Eddies. Mount Eddy being the most prominent one. All part of the Trinity Mountains. I.ve always wanted to get a photo of the reflection of Mt. Shasta in  Lake Siskiyou. The farther I went to the right the more the lake was rippling from the wind. Not a perfect reflection b...

 Looked outside from doing housework and noticed some enticing clouds. Got in my car and took a little trip. Low and behold the almond trees are in blossom. This is the result. Of course I took a LOT more than are posted here decisions, decisions!! Go, See, Enjoy, Stay Safe and Photograph Dave

Met a good friend Bill Pieruccini (isn't that a great Italian name) for lunch in the small town of Fort Jones. Bill then took me on a tour of Scott Valley. A couple these were taken before and after the tour. I used mostly black and white because I thought it best reflected the ambiance of the trip. I spotted these horses just enjoying the great weather An old Pole Barn I was treated to what is a rare site for me. A newborn calf trying to stand.  Momma continued to clean the calf and encourage it to stand.  Of course when it did manage it for a moment I was reviewing my previous shots.   Scott Valley was subjected to dredge mining for gold, which like many rivers and creeks in California left some major scars. The Callahan Red Bridge was constructed in 1908 If it was constructed today it would be concrete with no character. They don't build them like they used to.
