Here are some photos from various shoots
I've done over the last month of so. 

The first two are from UC Merced. Taken at night during
Spring break, Almost no-one on campus.








These were taken in Hornitos, a small former mining community in
the foothills.






These last two were taken when I went up to Mt. Shasta to give my
brother a hand. 



I'm not sure the name of this butterfly. It looks like a monarch to 
me, but monarchs aren't black and white from all the info I could find.





This is either from an old logging camp or possibly a sheep herders camp.

Mono Lake

During my recent trip to the east side of the Sierras I of course visited  Mono Lake. It's been almost 2 years since I've been in the area and was happy to see the lake has risen quite a bit. Some of the Tufas you were able to walk all the way around  now have one side under water. A good sight to see. Mono lake is about 45' below its historic levels due to the Los Angeles Department of Water diverting the normal creek inflow into the lake. An agreement was reached  in the 70's to restore the lake level to about 20' below historic levels. Very slowly, with drought years intervening, that seems to be happening. I've taken some beautiful sunrises at Mono Lake, every time I try for a sunset the clouds seem to disappear. I got lucky this time, but first some shots I took  before sunset. With the wind making the water a little choppy I didn't get the wonderful reflections the Tufas can offer. But there were some other oppo...

Foothill Wildflowers

I've been pretty lazy lately when it comes to editing photos. I have more from my trip to McCloud but in the meantime I'm posting some from a recent outing to the Central California Foothills near Sonora. This gave me a good opportunity to use my new Tokina 100mm Macro lens.  The wildflowers this year were somewhat disappointing, too much rain I guess. I thought it would be just the opposite The first up is of course a California Golden Poppy. All the photos I'm posting today are with the macro, except one. This flower surprised me. I don't think I have ever seen it before. I was luck with my flower guide because I opened it randomly to the right page. These I couldn't find in my guide. And last but not least. When I first saw this insect I thought it was a tiny bee. But looking closer I think it is actually a tiny wasp.  Go, See, Enjoy, Photograph Dave
