Merced Wildlife Refuge

 A couple of fellow photographers invited me to an early morning 
photoshoot of something I'd never noticed before. Spider webs covering
large areas of pasture grass.

This pre-sunrise photograph is just an inkling of what
was to come



When sunrise came it was a pretty good one. This is a little darker than 
actuality but I liked the effect.




Then the magic started and I understood what they were talking about.



You have to admit this is pretty cool. 
I changed this to Black and White to emphasis the webs themselves. Unfortunately
by doing so you miss the wonderful morning colors. Sorry.



Looking behind the last shot I caught the moon next to a very well webbed stalk.
Once again a little darker than reality



Not much later I spotted this jet crossing the sky. I kept both eyes open, one through the lens
following the jet, the other waiting for some birds to cross paths with it.



This one is not Photo Shopped except for a couple of wayward geese I removed at the 
the upper right. You see the fish of course, including fins, and eye and mouth.
Another pretty cool shot.



Finally a Northern Pintail. A beautiful duck resting at the refuge on it's 
annual migration.

Mono Lake

During my recent trip to the east side of the Sierras I of course visited  Mono Lake. It's been almost 2 years since I've been in the area and was happy to see the lake has risen quite a bit. Some of the Tufas you were able to walk all the way around  now have one side under water. A good sight to see. Mono lake is about 45' below its historic levels due to the Los Angeles Department of Water diverting the normal creek inflow into the lake. An agreement was reached  in the 70's to restore the lake level to about 20' below historic levels. Very slowly, with drought years intervening, that seems to be happening. I've taken some beautiful sunrises at Mono Lake, every time I try for a sunset the clouds seem to disappear. I got lucky this time, but first some shots I took  before sunset. Foothill Wildflowers

I've been pretty lazy lately when it comes to editing photos. I have more from my trip to McCloud but in the meantime I'm posting some from a recent outing to the Central California Foothills near Sonora. This gave me a good opportunity to use my new Tokina 100mm Macro lens.  The wildflowers this year were somewhat disappointing, too much rain I guess. I thought it would be just the opposite The first up is of course a California Golden Poppy. All the photos I'm posting today are with the macro, except one. This flower surprised me. I don't think I have ever seen it before. I was luck with my flower guide because I opened it randomly to the right page. These I couldn't find in my guide. And last but not least. When I first saw this insect I thought it was a tiny bee. But looking closer I think it is actually a tiny wasp.  Go, See, Enjoy, Photograph Dave

Luminature at the Chaffee Zoo

Went to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo the other night with Friedhelm and Nancy to view the LUMINATURE exhibits. I was very pleasantly surprised. I didn't know what to expect but this was a really great outing. I won't comment on the individual images since I think they pretty much speak for themselves.
